Shiloh Baptist
Cemetery and Pace Jackson Cemetery are two of oldest black cemeteries in
our area some are dated back to the early 1800’s. There are early black
residents that helped to build houses, docks, and lived in the
Gouldsboro and worked in and around the area of Sanford. Shiloh Baptist
Cemetery is owed by the church was known as Friendship and Union Lodge
Cemetery in the early years. Section 2 township 20 range 30 e – parcel
#14 and a small portion is owned and maintained by the city of Sanford.
Pace Jackson is
adjacent to Shiloh and they even ran together in 1992 I big campaign was
run to clean up the cemeteries and now it is the responsibility for the
city of Sanford to maintain them . Lakeview Cemetery is also one of the
white cemeteries they all run to gether on route 46 and H. E. Thomas
Parkway. Many early pioneers of Sanford are buried there this is also
maintained by the city as well.
